What is Reiki & How does it work?

Reiki is a type of holistic therapy where healing is given via light touch. The receiver usually lies or sits down and experiences feelings of warmth, relation and peace. The healing can also be sent over a 'distance', such as online over WhatsApp or Zoom. Here, the receiver experiences it just as if they were there in person.  Reiki however goes far beyond healing ailments, as Reiki's original purpose was to further one's spiritual growth and self development.

Reiki is an effective holistic or complementary therapy, proved to be effective through scientific research and used in NHS hospitals. It works in a safe, simple, yet powerful way.

Reiki can help you to achieve balance and harmony in all areas of your life. Examples of where Reiki is often used include, chronic illnesses, stress, anxiety, sleep problems, addictions, feeling stuck in life, depression and cancer. Reiki can offer an effective alternative where nothing else seems to help and is perfect to have alongside any treatment already being received.

Where does Reiki come from & how does it work?

The technique of Reiki was created by Dr Mikao Usui in the 19th century in Japan. Reiki is a Japanese word meaning, “The highest energetic vibrations in the Universe”. Reiki is made of two words - 'Rei' meaning 'spiritual wisdom' or 'higher power'; and 'Ki' meaning the vital forces or 'energies' that underlie everything, much alike to 'Chi' and 'Prana'.

We don't really know how Reiki works or what it actually is, and neither did Dr Usui. Dr Usui was confident that Reiki would not only heal ailments, but the whole world. Scientific studies have shown that Reiki does indeed work effectively, and you can read about such studies by The Center for Reiki Research.  One theory, is that Reiki is a process that creates harmony in the receiver's mind, body and spirit by enhancing the coherence of the body's vibrations, much like getting members of an an orchestra to perform in tune and in rhythm with each other.

What is a therapy session like?

Receiving Reiki is a gentle, soothing experience and a completely safe therapy, with no known side- effects. A treatment usually lasts for an hour. You would lie down on a treatment couch or sit down as you prefer, whilst I give you Reiki through light touch over various points on your body.

During a treatment, most people experience feelings of warmth, peace and relaxation. Everyone experiences the treatments differently, but Reiki is always beneficial, intelligently taking itself where it is most needed. Reiki works in a deep, powerful way, addressing the root cause of any issue. Whatever you experience will be perfect for you. Some people see colours, have sensations such as warmth or tingling, have visions or revelations, and some feel nothing but a sense of peace.

Reiki is so simple yet incredibly powerful.
